The Help Center is a collection of frequently asked questions and some simple guidelines to making this site and service more effective.


AmericanPotters.com supports CERF!
We support CERF on our site, and with a donation to any potter that meets their criteria. Please help spread the word and support them as well. Link to our donation... Then click on "General Offerings", then "Supplies & Misc."

The site is now ready to upload pictures from the comfort of your own home. Click the "Edit" (on the left side of any* "extended / link pages") and follow the instructions on how to change your image(s) and text to your paid (or free) listing. We will have more instructions here soon!
* Even if you have a gallery / portfolio listing, you must visit an extended listing to edit your content. Use your email as your "user name" then type your password. You will be taken to your "online gallery".

What exactly is AmericanPotters.com?
1. It's a national, searchable, database of potters, clay artists, teachers, students, workshop instructors, or anyone involved in the clay industry that wants to be accessible to everyone across the country/planet.
2. It's a place for potters to have a complete presence on the web for 1/3 the price of just hosting a web site.
3. A place for potters to have their portfolio/gallery and/or sell their work without a commision.
4. An electronic reference for potters to locate others in the ceramic community.
5. A place everyone can go, to look for ceramics for sale.

Can I sell my work from my gallery page?
Yes. That is the point, it's not just a portfolio, We expect you to make money. Just please understand, the customers should contact you for the sale. This is not an E-commerce site, we are not looking for a piece of the sale. Our goal is for "you" to change and update your "photos" and "captions" as you sell your work, right from your web browser.

Does AmericanPotters.com charge a commission from the sales of my work?
No! There are no commissions paid on your sales.

I've got my own url, can I have it point directly to my online gallery/portfolio page?
Yes! Just give your provider the url from the top of your page. It will go directly to your images when your web site is typed into the browser.

Are there any ads or pop-ups?
No, we don't have any ads, banners, or pop-ups, on the site.

How do I get started?
It's easy, just click the "JOIN US" button on the menu at left, then fill the template out and click the submit button. Your name and other info will get added as soon as we have a chance to check it. Once we receive the payment for the "bisque" or "glaze"; level the info will get posted.

How do I upgrade my listing?
Send an email to:upgrade@AmericanPotters.com to let us know that you would like to upgrade, and to what level. Then send the check to the address below.

How do I upload my pictures?
"Online Gallery" members must go to any “extended” (bisque) listing or "basic" (greenware), ("online gallery" users do not have an edit button), click the blue edit button/word (on the left side of the page). It is VERY important to remember to use your email address as your “user name”. The term changes with each different browser. And, as always, if you forgot your password, you may click the link to have it sent to you. (It should be there in your mailbox before you can open your email.) The images should be 500 pixels by 500 pixels (large detail) and the thumbnails must be 100 pixels by 100 pixels for the online gallery.
The “extended” (bisque) images have to be 250 pixels by 250 pixels. Just follow the instructions on the pages to create your portfolio and thumbnails.

How do I edit my captions, Statement, Biography, and contact information?
From any “extended” (bisque) listing, click the edit button. It is VERY important to remember to use your email address as your “user name”. The term changes with each different browser. And, as always, if you forgot your password, you may click the link to have it sent to you. (It should be there in your mailbox before you can open your email.) You are now back at the page where you joined. You can add, delete, and change any and all of your content, as often as you need. What size do my pictures need to be to avoid additional art charges for the gallery?
You will submit photos (500 pixels x 500 pixels) for the detail photo. And smaller photos, 100 pixels (across) x 100 pixels (down) to create the thumbnails. Each photo will be labeled (pot1.jpg) to correspond to the caption (caption1) for the thumbnail.

Can I join AmericanPotters.com even though I'm not from the USA?
Yes, but you won't be searchable by your address, only by your name, studio name, and specialties.(It will come up under "International".) And you must pay in US funds.

The office hours are 10 AM to 6PM (EST). 973-625-7444 Listen to the recording and press "5" to get it to ring. If you get the recording, please leave a message and we get back to you as soon as possible.

How do I pay for this service?
Checks made payable to "claytools.com" are good for now.

How can I keep my costs down?
The easiest way is to join early. The price you pay when you start, is the same even if there is a price increase. Also make sure the photos you send are the proper size to load to your page.
